Fleas are very small insects that feed on the blood of animals and humans in order to survive. These insects are considered to be one of the worst types of pests. This is due to the fact that they have painful bites, cause irritation of the skin (be it yours or your pets), and are so small that it makes it difficult to see them.

They will feed on anything that has blood.

A female flea has the capability of eating up to 15 times that of her weight. Fleas also have the capability of jumping up to 150 times that of their height. If you have discovered that you have fleas in your yard you’re probably wondering, how do you get rid of them?

Step #1: Use Water

It is a known fact that fleas cannot survive being immersed in a large amount of water.

If you have fleas in your yard, simply use water to drive them out. You will need to clean up your yard and then mow it so that the grass is as short as possible.

Immediately after, use your hose and flood out the area.

If you perform this step, it should be repeated within a week’s time in order to ensure that you successfully remove any lingering fleas or eggs.

Step #2: Place Cedar Chips Throughout the Yard

Fleas do not like the smell of cedar. In fact, they will go near nothing that smells of cedar.

If you have fleas in your yard, you should purchase and place cedar chips throughout the area. You should place these chips near your property line, around the perimeter of your home, near bushes and other types of plants, and near areas with water.

It is also important to place them underneath any porches or decks that you have and underneath your home (if you have a home with a foundation above ground).

Step #3: Professional Pest Control

Now, there are many over-the-counter products that claim to eliminate fleas. While many of these products do what they say they will do, they are potentially harmful to you, your loved ones, your animals, your property, and the environment.

If you are in search of ways to eliminate fleas from your yard, you should have a professional pest control company come in and safely treat your lawn.
